The aim of the paper is an attempt to recreate the process of the emergence of the German minority movement in the period of the political transition in the years 1989-1992 on the basis of materials from the Opole daily press. The choice of this period is dictated by the desire to show the initial stages of development of this community and its organizational form. It was during the period in mention that the German minority not only expanded the territorial range of its organizational structures and profiled its activities, but most of all it outlined the scope of its influence on the social and political life at the local and regional level in the Opolskie Voivodeship.
